This is what I see both up and down and sideways on the phone.
I only see the name of the person making the last post on the main page of a topic.

It shows both... At the left is who started it, and the right column is who made last post... If on phone, turn sideways in landscape position to see all columns...

I was clicking the main page button not the board index tab so the problem was on my end.

I am not sure what we are currently missing?
The current index page does show the 10 most recent posts...
Below that are links to each subforum...
You do need to be logged in to see it... Is that the problem?
Am I missing something? There are a variety of phpbb extensions to tweak/add index page content and format... I am using "Top Stats"... A simple one is "Recent Posts".

Here's an example page. There are 10 pages of most recent new posts above and below that are topic heading . On this site that would be politics, General, covid, wildfires, winter activities, current events Etc.
Can't see the recent new post page unless you are logged in.
Time saver for sure if you just want to see new posts.

Is it possible to go to the board index and see all the recent posts and then have the topic categories below?
I've have seen the feature on other websites using this format.
Only the registered voters can see the recent posts. I'm guessing that's an incentive to register as that feature is a Time Saver.

User registration from spammers totally reduced... I changed the challenge question... from mathematical to geography...
I was getting 100's of user registration requests a day from spammers... Now down to 0... lol...

Oh, and another thing. The 6kb limit on avatar images seems excessively frugal in an era of terabyte hard drives.

Markdown shows as OFF and BBCode shows as ON in the display to the right of the text entry box.
Note... I just loaded your message and resaved it... then it works... hmmmm
and markdown said ON for me

Very strange. I enabled markdown in my user preferences and disabled BB code but when I post markdown still shows as off. And I just tested and confirmed on a message preview that markdown isn't there. Again very strange.

I added a Markdown code extension...
# Markdown enabled...
I think the phpbb display code looks at the browser/device you are using and optimizes accordingly.
BB seems to work great on my iPhone thru safari...
