Awesome country. We backpacked into a basin after the 3rd creek crossing once, to the right. Very sweet basin. A little rough to get there. Off the trail, it looks unapproachable. Not steep but rocks and brush. Once we got there, we knew the way in and out, so used it as a base camp. Of course we just followed the bear tracks!

One time after the first creek crossing, I headed straight up the hill with a full pack... Short steep climb and ended in a nice basin below Seance... Up the saddle ridge to Seance for some views and lunch and then down the other side to Lake Burnice for a few days of fishing. Great trip! :-)

I forgot about Mike. We did go on the trail. Eastfork Buttermilk Rd. is still in the shape it always is in. Almost seemed a wee bit better. Subaru Forester made it just fine.
Trail had not been cut out. Sounds bad as someone said 240 blowdowns, but that's if each and every little tree down, which could be stepped over easily, was counted. For day trips with a small day pack, no problem going under, over or around the blowdowns. The most were before the creek crossing. Crossing good.
Did not make it to the pass, but to the 3rd crossing at the bridge. Some bugs the higher we went. All in all, a nice cool hike this past Monday.

Has anyone been to HooDoo Pass lately? Forest Service site doesn not give conditions of trail, creek crossing, etc.
Thanks.
