Re: FOP says Wagner Pool will continue to operate

It might be good to keep a list of all the misleading statements in one place. I've gone through and copied and pasted and am keeping this list handy when it comes to writing letters to the editor. Talk about bamboozeling.

FOP says Wagner Pool will continue to operate

Post by Fun CH »

In the first paragraph the FOP describes the need to replace the Wagner pool, yet in the second paragraph they describe their proposed creation of a Metropolitan Park District using our tax dollars to both keep the Wagner Pool operating and build a new Mega pool.

From the FOP website

"Wagner Pool?
The Wagner Pool has served our community for 57 years. It has already outlived its lifespan (average life of a pool is 50 years). It is leaking and too small for our current population and number of users, especially the swim team. It is also not compliant with modern plumbing, electrical, energy, parking or the Americans with Disabilities Act."

"How will the Aquatics District funds be used?
Revenues will first and foremost be used to pay for the ongoing operating expenses of the new pool, and possibly the current pool. This will ensure a sustainable funding plan to help qualify for any federal or state grants or private funds for building a pool."end quote

So the plan is keep Wagner pool operating, even though they say it's can't be fixed, and build the new Mega pool/spa in Winthrop.

Here is the current FOP statement regarding location.

"Where will the pool be?
The exact location will be determined by the Methow Aquatics District commissioners. Ideally it would be located in Twisp to honor the legacy of the Wagner Pool and provide easier access for residents of the lower valley. Further, by locating it in Twisp it spreads recreational resources more evenly in the valley. The ideal site should be walkable from town, have plenty of parking, and some outdoor green space similar to the Wagner Pool."

That describes that little corner of land that is farmed by the Spring Creek Ranch in front of the Winthrop ice rink. Plenty of parking, and walking distance from town and tourist accommodations.

Twisp doesn't have the site that they are describing. And why would they need to build the new mega pool /spa inTwisp with the continued operation of the Wagner pool?

Their plans are becoming clearer. Now we will have two pools. One Seasonal Pool in Twisp and one year-round indoor Mega pool/spa in Winthrop with a Climbing Gym to be added later in Mazama.

Vote No on prop 1
